The Feminist Foundation for African Contemporary Art (FFACA) was established on 23 March 2023.
The central goal of the Foundation is the promotion and support of women contemporary artists of African heritage.
Recognising firstly that women artists, and particularly women artists of colour, have historically been underrepresented in both private and public collections, and furthermore that low representation of women artists is closely tied to issues including gender inequality, socio-economic restrictions, and family duties.
The Foundation takes a close interest in not only identifying and promoting women-led contemporary arts practices, but also in addressing the underlying structural impediments to their artistic career.
Furthermore, the Foundation wishes to promote contemporary African art as a valuable and creative form of artistic expression, and to override restrictive and outdated colonial notions around African-related issues.
