Anne-Marie Akplogan is a Beninese visual artist belonging to the new generation of contemporary art. Having studied fine art at the National Institute of Arts and Crafts, Archaeology (INMAAC) and Culture, Anne-Marie Akplogan has, since 2018, been developing an original artistic approach combining acrylic paint, watercolour, gouache, ink, pastel, graphite, coffee and natural materials such as laterite.
Her work draws its inspiration primarily from the foot, a symbol of the human journey, identity and heritage. Through abstract and figurative works, she explores existential questions relating to the origin, destination and meaning of humanity’s journey. Her art invites us to pay attention to the details of everyday life that contribute to the shaping of our identity and our collective heritage.
Highly active on the art scene, she has taken part in several workshops, residencies, training courses and exhibitions in Benin and internationally. Among her notable achievements are the « Confusion » project, supported by the African Fund for Culture in 2022, a group exhibition in New York in 2023, a group exhibition at the Institut Français in Benin in 2024, a first solo exhibition in 2025 in Benin, and an artist residency at the École Alsacienne from 2025 to 2026.
