Born in Kinshasa in 1980, Aza’s artistic talent was discovered early on, thanks to her parents who supported her despite of her difficulties at primary school due to her left-handedness. They enrolled Aza in art school at age fourteen, where she excelled obtaining her art studies diploma at secondary level. With a new-found self-confidence, a few years later she obtained her post-graduate diploma from the Kinshasa Academy of Fine Arts.

Aza then joins Ateliers Botembe, reputed to be one of the best workshops of its time, where she meets two Cameroonian artists, who share her artistic vision. Four years later they constitute their own collective “3cocoricos” and take part in several exhibitions in Kinshasa and Douala. The collective disbanded in 2014, and Aza decided to discover Cameroon. She developed a deep affection for the country, which offered her new experiences, both professional and personal.

After fifteen years in Cameroon, Aza chose to pursue a solo career and returned to Kinshasa to continue her artistic research.

Aza works across different mediums including painting, sculpture, installation and video. She has exhibited extensively in Africa and abroad.
