Born in 1988, self-taught collage artist Crista Uwase is renowned for her colourful works depicting distorted faces and women in traditional Rwandan dress. Most of her works are created by tearing printed material into strips and pieces, glueing them to canvas, and sewing the superimposed surfaces together using a sewing machine or by hand.

Based in Kigali, Crista has taken part in various exhibitions including "FAVT" at the Richard Kandt Museum (2019), "Afrotopism" at the Digital Transformation Center (2020), "Stigma, Power and Hopes" as part of the Hamwe Festival at UGHE (2020), "At the Entrance" at the Kigali Soul Gallery (2022), and "Irebe ry’ Itangaza / A Lotus of Wonder" at Espace, Kigali (2023).
