Odile Uwera, a self-taught illustrator and writer born in Kigali in 1996, explores the navigation of individual identity in relation to collective identity. In March 2022, she published the colouring book “NKUNDA IWACU” (I Love Home) about Rwanda. In December 2022, she presented her solo exhibition “untitled - a journal of uncertain times” in Kigali. In September 2022, her comics were exhibited in Cologne as part of the Goethe Institut’s transnational “Africomics” project, and her comic strip “Nameless in Cape Coast” was published in the “AfriComics” anthology. In January 2023, she won a writing fellowship from the Rwanda Film Office to prepare her first novel. Odile also works as a freelance illustrator.
